Dear Expert: I'm on the fence about hiring a landscape architect. Sometimes I feel like I should undertake my landscape projet on my own, but the details seem endless! When do I need to hire a landscape architect? A: If you need advice on a horticultural level (when do I prune my shrubbery), you do not need a landscape architect. There are a variety of resources out there to answer those specific questions. If, on the other hand, your project is more complex and involves drainage issues, driveway layout, patios, walkways, swimming pools, tennis courts, retaining walls, lighting (the list is endless), then you need the expertise of a landscape architect: someone thoroughly trained in landscape design that can artfully assemble... Design fees can also begin to cover the expense of some... Read more » Posted on Thursday, May 7, 2009 in Ask the Experts | Permalink | Comments (0) |

May 4, 2009The Bronze Age
Dear Expert: What's your take on bronze appliances? I'm not digging this trend, but want to hear what the 'pros' think. A: Bronze finish faucets will remain a trend for several years. The original bronze finishes were "living" surfaces that were meant to show ageing quickly to give the character of an antique. As such, this finish will have continued value in design settings where antique style is desired. I would estimate this finish is at its peak now and will drop somewhat in popularity before hitting a sort of plateau of demand that should last for many years. —Pipeline Supply Posted on Monday, May 4, 2009 in Ask the Experts | Permalink | Comments (0) |
