Art Fair Trifecta

We're approaching the first weekend of August, and that means it's art fair season. Spend your lazy afternoons from Friday, August 6 through Sunday, August 8 strolling through a myriad of stalls containing the best painting, ceramics, photography, and woodcarving the art world has to offer during the Uptown, Powderhorn, and Loring Park art fairs.

Local Talent at NKBA

It was a good year for Minnesota designers at the 2010 National Kitchen and Bath Design Competition. Local firms were top finishers in three different design categories:

Blu Dot Hot Spot

If you've been waiting for Blu Dot's annual warehouse sale to score a Buttercup Rocker or a Chicago 8 box, the countdown begins now. The sale is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5, at the Blue Dot warehouse in Rogers. The new location might not be as convenient as the old one in Northeast Minneapolis, but with  discounts up to 90 percent on some items, it's worth the drive. American Craft Show in Town

Calling all lovers of fine crafts! The American Craft Council’s annual St. Paul show is here at last. This weekend at RiverCentre, more than 240 artists (some 25 of them local) will be exhibiting jewelry, wearable art, decorative textiles, glass, pottery, ceramics, furniture, lighting, and much more. The Sale Room @ IMS

Here’s the best idea since the R&B weekend outlet. Now we can all shop International Market Square for designer furniture and accessories. The Sale Room @ ISM opened to the public yesterday, selling consignments from showrooms and designers at prices at least 50 percent below suggested retail. I spotted a cool Palecek wicker chair with pony-covered cushions ($620, marked down from $1,243) that I immediately coveted. Also a couple Brown Jordan teak chairs ($400, originally $1,300). Then there were gorgeous hand-knotted wool rugs (retail, $4,000 to $5,000) priced around $1,000.
