New MN Docomomo Chapter Launching Thurs
A new Minnesota chapter of Docomomo, an international organization dedicated to documenting and preserving architecture from the mid-century modern movement, is launching this Thursday at Design Within Reach in Minneapolis. Five women—a historian, an architect, a painter, and two professors— are behind the new chapter, and hope the interest is HUGE. "We'd love to do a happy hour, maybe a meet-and-greet at Spinario Design, a modern home tour, lots of different events," says Beth Bowman, a painter who works from her own 1940s modern house St. Paul, and laments the destruction of Ralph Rapson's sublime Guthrie Theater, among other modern gems in the Twin Cities.
Bowman stresses that the new organization is not for professionals only. "Anyone who loves mid-century architecture is invited," she says. The launch party is this Thursday at 6 p.m.
