Two Words: Man Caves

Our magazine’s most undeniably glam event is coming up this weekend and there are simply some features you MUST see! Never before have the homes on the Tour been this downright fabulous.

Here’s my hit list for the 2009 Twin Cities Luxury Home Tour:

Home #3 McNulty HomesThe new “it” item in luxury living: a private island 250 feet offshore. This home comes with 6.5 acres of wooded beauty, including the island; with views from practically every room, the island doesn’t seem too far away to let the kids explore.

Behind the Scenes with Minnesota Builders

Bringing meaningful and informative content to our readers is one of our primary goals at Midwest Home magazine. In that spirit, we ask you to take a moment to check out two new videos on our website featuring M|A|Peterson and Vujovich Design Build. Learn about M|A|Peterson’s dynamic remodeling seminar, which can help you answer questions such as, “Should we sell or should we remodel?” and “How do we budget for the project?” You can even sign up for M|A|Peterson’s next free seminar, coming up on March 14. Straight from KARE11 Studios...Wallpaper is back, baby!

On Monday I stopped over at KARE11 to do a segment with Di Pierce on tips and trends found in our annual Home Book. Among the trends…wallpaper! That’s right people, flocking is back and is more fabulous than ever. As are gorgeous metallics. Martha O’Hara Interiors hooked me up with some to-die-for wallpaper samples. Also among the tips recommended via our Home Book…accent lighting. With the proper lighting, you can make artwork or photos in frames pop – just like this modern frame from Room & Board.

Here are the... Read more »

Wine and Chocolate... While You Shop!

So, my new favorite place to shop has quickly become Max’s of Excelsior and Grand. Why, you ask? I have yet to find another store where I can sip wine and eat gourmet chocolate while perusing gorgeous jewelry and spectacular hand blown glass pieces (that perfectly compliment my living room, by the way). A friend and I made a night of visiting Max’s during one of their “Girls Night Out” parties – wine and chocolates galore – it was a fabulous night! And of course I couldn’t leave without a bag full of goodies suitable for my tummy and home…

Located at The Shops at Excelsior & Grand in St. Louis Park, Max's features unique artisan-made fine jewelry, home decor and specialty chocolates, much of which can't be found... Read more »

Fabulous Furnishings at Discount Prices!

I’ve been working with Martha O’Hara Interiors for years, and during that time, they’ve never failed to dazzle. Just the phrase ‘Martha O’Hara Interiors’ evokes images of Martha herself, swathed in Burberry, toting Chanel, and personally hauling furniture from one end of a room to the other.

And while I’ve been daunted at the prospect of Martha O’Hara Interiors-style prices tags, I’m thrilled to announce that I am now officially a Martha client. What? You ask. Hit the lottery? Married a wealthy Greek tycoon?

Not so much. But…

Martha O’Hara Interiors has just opened a Showroom and Warehouse that sells luxury furnishings at sample sale prices. The inventory turns over regularly, so... Read more »

BATC's Big Winners

Landmark Photography

At a red carpet gala on October 25, the Builders Association of the Twin Cities (BATC) held its annual Awards of Excellence, combining several presitigous local building awards, including the Reggie, Trillium, People’s Choice, and Sales & Marketing Awards. Those who were deemed worthy by the panel of judges got bragging rights at the annual ceremony and among the winners were a few of our favorites, our Luxury Home Tour builders and their homes featured on this year’s tour:

Eco-chic at IMS

Last Saturday, Midwest Home sponsored International Market Square’s Style Maker Kitchen + Bath Series: Green Design Defined. As attendees entered the event with their swatches, paint samples, and room dimensions in hand, ready for their complimentary consultations, I couldn’t help but think: How can I incorporate green elements into my soon-to-be-remodeled kitchen?

Luckily, Joshua Foss of Thrive Design Studio and HGTV’s Design Star gave me some great tips, along with Roger Zierman of Partners 4, Design; Lisa Weck of Cambria; Tricia Bayer of Belle Kitchen; and Katie Speckman of Valcucine: Read more »

Luxury all wrapped up

The tour is all wrapped up for 2008 and there were some really amazing homes to see. I was fortunate enough to go to a little party at one of the homes on Sunday evening and got to enjoy this home in a different way. It was a catered event where we were able to wander through the home and really enjoy every gorgeous detail of that home. Spending time in these homes you sure do notice all the details, from the amazing hand blown pennants over the master vanity and the kitchen island to the steel art with a picaso theme over the fireplace, both done by local artists.
You will have the opportunity to see these homes again when we publish our August issue of Midwest Home Magazine. This issue... Read more »

Last Chance

Last chance to see the 2008 Luxury Home Tour homes

If you have not checked out the 2008 Luxury Home Tour, make plans now to visit this coming weekend, the third and final weekend of the tour. I was out and about on the tour this past weekend and saw some truly amazing homes with features that are new, even to me, after all of the homes I have walked through over the course of my career.

From real interior stone walls to decadent and distinct lighting to gorgeous tiles with some very creative twists, the tour has an outstanding selection of 17 custom homes this year. This past weekend the beautiful weather made for three perfect tour days—especially after our cold and rainy spring. And when you visit, don’t forget to meet the builders, because... Read more »

Nowhere to go but up

Hello and welcome to Kori’s Korner, my new Midwest Home blog.

During the last week of April, I visited Washington, D.C., for the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Board of Directors meeting. It was an incredible experience to join more than 1,200 home builders to deliver an urgent message to Congress requesting legislation to jump-start housing, save jobs, and restore confidence.

On May 3rd, an article in the Wall Street Journal highlighted the success of NAHB’s legislative conference. The article noted that 300 personal visits and... Read more »
