Spring Splurge
Treasured collectibles make fresh floral sing
This vintage bronzed Indonesian gem bowl ($115, Three Pagodas) is a fitting home for this zesty arrangement by Russell Toscano, owner of Wisteria Design Studio in Minneapolis. The fringed orange tulips, horsetail grass, smoky-violet succulents, goblet-shaped pincushion protea, and dangling pink grevilleas meld beautifully with the décor of Mary Marsden’s Minneapolis loft, filled with antiques and keepsakes from her global adventures.

A crocodile on the baby grand? Why not! This unique wooden vessel is one of Marsden’s prized souvenirs from her travels in New Guinea. It’s filled with red and mauve Ecuadorian roses and lime hydrangea blossoms, as well as flowering kale, ruby-pink proteas, tea leaves, and local fantail willow—a sly mix of old-fashioned and up-to-date by floral designer Kristi Svenkeson, owner of Pazzobello Flowers in Minneapolis. The scene is Marsden’s dramatic great room, with its stunning views of the Mississippi, the Stone Arch Bridge, and St. Anthony Falls.

A gift to Marsden, this pewter wine decanter from Venice perfectly suits an understated bouquet of black parrot tulips, umbrella ferns, and French pussy willows. Designed by Bastian + Skoog Urban Flower Studio of Minneapolis, the arrangement sits on a hand-carved, 200-year-old French gothic buffet in Marsden’s dining room.
