Jackie Millea believes that good design can help people live better—physically, mentally, and spiritually. “My work is greatly inspired by how each of our clients defines what ‘better’ means to them,” she says. “It’s really specific to where each of us is in our lives...what we value the most.”

Millea is both an architect and interior designer. After 15 years practicing both fields, she started Shelter Architecture + Interior Design with two partners, Kurt Gough and John Dwyer, in 2004. “We founded Shelter on a shared passion for what we call ‘cause design,’ or design that stands for something such as health, personal well-being, or the environment,” she says. All three partners’ commitment to improving their clients’ lives through design has them constantly researching and debating the plethora of products and opinions on issues surrounding sustainable design.

“Our studio is multidisciplinary with experts in architecture, interior design, and landscape design,” Millea says. “In the end, each of our clients experiences an inspired and holistic pursuit to any design challenge.”
