» Fresh Furniture
Long-time St. Cloud-based maker of retail store fixtures M. Lavine Design Workshop is introducing a new specialty: cool, eco-friendly furniture. The 13-piece collection—which includes dining tables and sculptural, conversation-worthy chairs—is made from laser-cut scrap metal and reclaimed barn wood. CEO Jackie Bach christened the new collection “Solveig,” an Old Norse word that roughly translates to “strength of the home.” Indeed. See it all online at www.mlavine.com.
« Sold! Zen Sanctuary
Featured in Midwest Home last September, this modern home on Mount Curve Avenue in Minneapolis—originally designed by Edward Baker, the father of the Skyway system—changed hands in late April for $1.66 million, down from the original $1.69 million asking price. It was sold by former Xcel Energy executive Parker Newcomb and his partner, tech consultant Jaime Roman, who together poured incredible creative genius into the 4,424-square-foot house, adding a reflecting pool, a horizontal bamboo-covered kitchen, and a “Zen garden” tucked into an atrium.
» Juicy Bites
There’s a juicy weekend coming up for those who love sustainably-raised, heavenly-scented, ripe-in-the-season fruits and vegetables. On Saturday, August 16, more than 40 community gardens open their gates to tours, tastings, music, and other bits of garden revelry. (Don’t miss Dowling Community Garden’s fab heirloom tomato festival.) Find out more at www.gardenworksmn.org. Then, on Sunday, August 17, hit the first-ever Fresh Taste Festival at Nicollet Island Pavilion with more than 30 exhibitors of local food and wine. See www.freshtaste.com for all the details.
