Organic Beauty
An empty-nester contemporary shows off a casual elegance
This Eden Prairie home strikes a masterful balance between two decorative paths. “We wanted to create a home that leaned contemporary, but incorporated organic materials to mature and soften the lines,” says builder Andy Porter, president of JMS Custom Homes.
Inside, stone walls, clear cedar ceilings, and Australian wormy chestnut flooring rest comfortably next to stark angles, a glass-bead gas fireplace, and state-of-the-art appliances. Green features abound in this home as well: bamboo accents, reclaimed timbers from a locally deconstructed barn, and a tankless water heater. The home manages to be casual and grand at the same time. Stone walls and a circular driveway feel natural on the lot, while 14-foot windows add a sense of elegance to the 5,300-square-foot home’s exterior. —A.K.
