Les Dames d’Escoffier is having a Culinary Garage Sale in the Crystal Kitchen Center parking lot: July 30, 2009, 8-5 • July 31, 2009, 8-4
Proceeds from the garage sale will support two charities: a local scholarship program and the Eastside Children’s Garden Project.
The Scholarship Program provides funds to qualified female applicants for beginning, continuing or specialty education at accredited culinary schools in Minnesota. Recipients are selected based on strength of application, personal references, skills and merit.
The Eastside Children’s Garden Project started in 1996 when the community Design Center of Minnesota planted a garden on an empty corner on St. Paul ‘s East Side . The project’s goal was to help children become part of community life and to develop skills around food and the environment that would serve them for life. The children also learn how to make a variety of products using the vegetables, herbs and flowers that they have grown. The project now operates seven gardens, where children learn how to tend the gardens and see the results of their caring labor. They learn about health, nutrition, the environment, job and career opportunities and working as a team in the community.
