Sometimes, the setting comes first. Angie Larson and her husband, Chris, purchased this Edina colonial for the property, set among mature trees on the banks of Minnehaha Creek. The home, however, left a lot to be desired. It was more than 60 years old, “too small, and in quite a state of disrepair,” Angie Larson says. Only an extensive remodeling project would be able to make this home livable for a family of four and fit for its beautiful environs.
The Larsons worked with C.R.E. Construction to create the interior and substantial addition that they needed.

The addition fits seamlessly to the original home and includes a mudroom off the enlarged garage; a gorgeous kitchen and adjacent family room; downstairs bedroom and family space; and much-needed master suite, overlooking the creek from the second floor.
After the planning was completed, the Larsons moved out for the summer and C.R.E. finished the remodeling work in a quick 3½ months. “When push came to shove, they were here seven days a week,” Angie says. “They were wonderful to work with…they were excellent resources when it came to possibilities, options, and suggestions about how to make the finished project look the best it could.”

The home is perfect in size and layout, Angie continues, especially because she’s able to keep an eye on her young children whether she’s in the kitchen or working on laundry. “They were able to keep old house charm but give us new house convenience,” she says. “Everything flows like it’s a new house.”
