> Lower level and kitchen remodel

Before the remodeler’s touch, this Plymouth abode was rather unremarkable. Its first owner left the 1990s spec home unaltered. But when it changed hands a few years ago, its new owners saw the potential for something more.

The renovation began with transforming the lower level into an Irish pub-themed entertaining area. Streeter & Associates opened up the compartmentalized space and used dark alder wood and an inviting curved bar top to set a cozy, comfortable tone. A tin ceiling above stained and scored concrete floors adds an air of authenticity. Finishing touches include a card table, projector screen with 7.0 surround sound system, and arcade area for the owners’ two boys. “There are multiple details that are unique themselves, but really come together to paint the picture as a whole,” says Jeff Lindgren, project designer.

After the spectacular lower level was completed, the next phase of the remodel was directed to the much needed kitchen remodel.

Today, the new kitchen is an Old World European style with beamed ceiling; richly detailed cherry woodwork; a custom tile backsplash; and cumaru flooring. The island’s trough sink can be a place to clean vegetables or chill beverages on ice.

The kitchen makes good use of space, too: The corbels supporting the hood are pull-out spice racks, and columns between the kitchen and living area contains hidden storage for miscellaneous items like bills and phone books.

“Just like the Europeans, instead of using every square foot (of space), you try to use every square inch,” Lindgren says.

That’s one more way this remodel shows its European roots—every square inch of it.
