The kitchen in this Maple Grove home dated to 1978—and looked it. Regrettably, the sink and range were too close for two people to work in the space at the same time. On the other side of the wall, the dining room was dark and tunnel-like. The owners had two goals: reconfigure the workspace so they could both be in the kitchen comfortably, and open up the entire space to fill their home with light.
Enter Crystal Kitchen Center, which moved the cooktop away from the sink, installed new maple cabinetry, added a pantry and desk, and opened up a 10-foot double pass-through to the dining room. The latter made the interior feel more spacious, and bright wall colors give the kitchen even more dimension. Colorful glass backsplash tile and a concrete snack bar with ½-inch glass top add a fun vibe to these rooms.
“The owners entertain more now, because the dining room is open to the kitchen,” says JoLynn Johnson, president of CKC. “And even with taking out 10 feet of upper cabinets, they actually have more storage.”
