The kitchen of this suburban home was entirely unremarkable. The size was right, but the 15-year-old interior was bland and didn’t meet the owners organization needs. “Their tastes had changed dramatically over the years, and they wanted to make some updates,” explains Rachel Latt, interior designer for Lake Country Builders.
While the kitchen configuration remained similar, the interior was upgraded dramatically to a formal Tuscan character with antique-glazed cabinetry and Yellow River granite countertops. A knotty alder island provides seating around a gentle curve to encourage conversation. And the angled doorway to the dining room was upgraded to an arched entry wrapped with cabinetry.
Elsewhere, the remodel gave the master bath a new level of elegance with comparable Italian country atmosphere, upgraded the family room, and helped the homeowners with organization systems in several areas.
“We took the job all the way to the end, finishing it with furniture, accessories, and custom window treatments,” Latt says. “It went from a very average nice-looking house to the kind of house that you walk in and go, ‘Wow.’ ”
