It was the land that appealed to the owners of this Minnetrista address. A retired couple, they had recently purchased the home and acreage as a place to spend their golden years. In order to become their ideal nest, however, the 40-year-old split-level home needed a larger kitchen, a better floor plan for entertaining, and an upgraded master suite. They worked with architect Bruce Abramson and Boyer Building to make their dreams tangible.
First was the new kitchen: Placed at the center of the home, it would be the heart of every gathering. Because it lacked exterior walls, the design called for natural light from a
window-ringed tower above. A custom-fabricated tempered glass and steel superstructure allows the husband to use this soaring space for observation. While still allowing natural light to the space below.
What had been the dining room became the wife’s art studio. A great room rear addition created a perfect informal dining area and family gathering space. Upstairs, a bedroom was absorbed into the spacious new master suite, which features a three-sided glass shower in the bath.
Now, the owners have the home they wanted, thanks to the unique design solutions of this remodel.
