The Minnesota Chapter of The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is a community of people driven by a common love for design and committed to the belief that interior design, as a service to people, is a powerful, multi-faceted profession that can positively change people’s lives. Through education, knowledge sharing, advocacy, community building and outreach, the Society strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people’s lives.
“Our members must have education, experience and ethics,” explains Lisa Peck, president of the Minnesota chapter of ASID. “The designers of ASID all have a commitment to follow the ASID ethics standards. Clients can have confidence knowing that by virtue of their membership in ASID, their designer has agreed to be forthright and transparent in their business dealings and to hold the health, safety, and welfare of their clients as a vital priority when designing a space for them.”
Each member of the ASID community makes a commitment to continuing education, ensuring they are at the forefront of technological, material, code and industry trend knowledge.
The bones of the project are important, yes, but an ASID designer looks at the big picture to understand their clients’ goals: not only design and functional goals, but financial goals and life goals. A designer’s job should be to help clients express who they are—and tell the stories of their lives—rather than the designer’s personal style. It is an intimate process of getting to know your client and celebrating who they are through how they live (or how they will live), and ASID designers understand this. It’s an entirely different process for each client. The best designs are ones that are thoughtfully collected, rather than coordinated. The heart of what they do is exploring who, exactly, the client is.

The short and sweet: Effective use of space is key in this charming cottage kitchen. A center island in knotty alder adds warmth to the room. White Crystal cabinets are brushed to resemble antique furniture, and cream tones in the backsplash and countertops create an inviting country setting.
