The Reggie Awards, which stand for “Registered Builder,” were created to recognize outstanding achievement by member builders in the design, quality and value of their homes. Held in conjunction with the Parade of Homes Fall Showcase™, participating builders enter their best new Parade Homes in the competition.
The entries were divided into single-family and association-maintained homes, and then into price ranges, creating 30 categories. Armed with comprehensive judging forms, four industry professionals each visited the homes within their category. Judging forms are in a scorecard type format, broken down to cover various aspects of the home’s design and construction quality, as well as rating the home’s value. Once all the homes have been viewed, the four judges meet together to review the scores and choose the winning entry. Conferring together, the four judges discuss the merits of each home, ensuring that the winner is truly the most deserving.
In 2005, a total of 133 homes were judged in five association-maintained and 22 single-family homes categories. The 27 winners are listed at right, from lowest to highest priced. The number preceding each builder name refers to their Parade of Homes Fall Showcase entry number.
“The Reggie Award is a highly-coveted prize to local builders,” explains Rick Kot, 2004 president of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities and president of R.A. Kot Homes, Inc., a local building firm. “Winning a Reggie means your toughest critics—other builders—have judged your home to be the best in construction quality, design, and value! I was very thrilled to earn one (last year).”

2005 Reggie Award of Excellence
Single Family Home
We are honored to win this award because it recognizes what our peers rate as the best home in the price category. The Reggies are judged by people in the residential construction industry for quality, innovation, architectural and interior design (all of our homes are designed by our in-house registered architect), and value to the consumer. The award is as it states, an award for excellence in home building, and our peers—by voting us the best—give us credibility and validate the work that we do. This award represents the fourth Reggie award we have received in the six years we have entered. We have also won a Peoples Choice Award every year since its inception four years ago, which means that other builders and the general public view and appreciate the homes we build, and consider them some of the best homes in the Twin Cities area.
I would like to thank all of our vendors, suppliers and subcontractors and give them credit for helping us win the awards, because it is one thing to design and plan a home, but it is equally important to execute in real life what we put on paper in order to achieve the final result. We could not have done it without their quality services and craftsmanship. They share our goals and adhere to our standards, both of which are critical to our success.
With this home, our strategy was to create an easy-to-live-in family home that captured views of a forest and lake in the backyard. The highlight of the home was a bonus space above the garage that was split into two spaces. One space is a bedroom/guest room, and the adjacent room is a resource room/getaway space/sitting area. A see-through fireplace between the two rooms creates an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. Our visitors loved the concept.
