Parade Spotlight:
This home was created for a family down to the last detail, from a kids’ activity room, to custom laundry organizer cubbies, to a sport court underneath the garage.
From top to bottom, inside and out, everything about this home is designed to appeal to a family.
Outside, this two-story walkout feels like a Midwest Cape Cod cottage with an expansive front porch that invites you to the front door. Inside, the home has “most everything you would want,” says builder K.C. Chermak.
“The detailing in this home is Old World,” Chermak continues. “With a lot of the finish materials, we went for an Old World feel and warm, lived-in look that blended nicely with the new amenities that people crave.” For example, most of the main floor is hand-scraped walnut, which Chermak says is “chasing that lived-in, distressed, non-perfect-but-sophisticated feel. It seems to be a driving force in the market right now. It’s like a fine wine—instead of waiting for it to be perfected, we are doing it right out of the chute.” The great room relaxes you under a re-sawn beamed ceiling; double-hung windows with transoms look out into an old-growth forest. The kitchen captures Old World feel through a mix of enameled woodwork with distressed, Old World glazing. Pull up a chair—and a view—in the dinette, which features a window seat buffet. Double doors open to a vaulted screen porch and stone wood-burning fireplace. The porch is wrapped by a deck with an eating area.

Five bedrooms are upstairs. Two share a bath—Jack-and-Jack in this case, since both rooms were intended for boys. A third has its own private bath—for guests. A vaulted ceiling soars above the master suite, which has a custom bath with split vanities, a soaking tub, and furniture-style cabinetry. The nearby laundry room includes two washers and two dryers, and built-in organizing cubbies designed for each child’s laundry basket. Above the garage is a guest bedroom, and a brightly painted bonus room designed for kids activities.
The lower level includes a TV/theater room, a pub-style bar, game table area, exercise room, and a 14-foot-ceiling sport court underneath the three-car garage. Even the family dog has been considered: The garage is complete with a doggie wash.
“It’s a fabulous floor plan,” Chermak says. “(The owners) worked with our design team to capture their personality and a family-friendly theme. In this case, you can tell that there’s been a great deal of time and care put into the selections of this home.”
