The advent of longer days and warmer weather is usually accompanied by traditions shared by many households: Clean up, clean out, get organized. In preparation for spring cleaning, Shelf Conversions offers tips to help get you thinking about keeping your kitchen cabinets and shelves in good order:
1. Get yourself into zones: One for cooking, one for food preparation, one for food storage and one for clean up. Store related items and utensils in each zone.
• Cooking: pots, pans, lids, baking trays and dishes.
• Food preparation: bowls, cutting utensils, cutting boards, blenders and other small appliances.
• Food storage: pantry items, spices away from the oven, large items near the floor so you don’t have to bend down
• Clean up: storage ware, plastic and aluminum wrap, garbage and recycling bins.
2. Organize by size or shape of item to be stored: Items that are typically stored horizontally and on top of one another should be stored vertically for great organization and accessibility.
3. Blind Corner areas can be useful for organizing those cooking utensils you use infrequently. Consider using a sliding shelf system to maximize storage and easy access in these areas.
