Condominium Spotlight:

Many of the homes at this unique, signature St. Paul address overlook the Mississippi River, with balconies that are a literal stone’s throw from the water’s edge.

On a recent winter afternoon, Dan Patsey watched snowflakes swirl above the Mississippi River from the comfort of home. He wasn’t the only one enjoying this view of St. Paul—nearby, a bald eagle kept surveillance of the river from a treetop perch.

The eagle is a regular in the wintertime, Patsey explains, taking up seasonal residence along the Mississippi, within view from Patsey’s home at Upper Landing.

The condominiums at Upper Landing bask in one of the most awesome and virtually unmatched residential settings in the Twin Cities. They hug the banks of the river on the doorstep of downtown St. Paul—a spectacular location, to be sure, but one that won’t be available for long, as Upper Landing is anticipated to be sold out this year.

Upper Landing has been home for Patsey and his significant other Nancy Redlin for more than 3½ years. Patsey, a management consultant and self-described urban dweller, divides his time between the Twin Cities and Denver. Redlin had been living in suburban Maple Grove and was ready for a change. Upper Landing was perfect for the couple—quiet living along miles of jogging and bike trails, and within walking distance of the European flavor of downtown St. Paul.

Their current home is their second at Upper Landing; a year and a half ago, they moved to a new building to gain a home overlooking the Mississippi. Upper Landing’s homes include kitchens with granite countertops, maple trim, whirlpool tubs, 9-foot ceilings, walk-in closets, and fireplaces. Homes range from 925 to 2,125 square feet. Residents have access to heated parking and a beautiful courtyard.

Life at Upper Landing takes full advantage of the area’s attractions, from unique restaurants and Garrison Keillor’s bookstore to the Ordway Theatre and Xcel Energy Center. “Nancy’s a runner, so out the door there are 100 miles of paths” along the river parkways, Patsey adds—equally perfect for a biker like himself. When they are not out and about, often the couple will spend time playing Scrabble and watching the boat traffic on the river.
Patsey sums it up well: “This is like being in a resort.”
