Interior Design
We may tend toward the traditional, but Minnesotans have an eye for smart design and beautiful furnishings. So it’s no surprise that a number of Minnesota designers are nationally known. Beyond their household names, an expansive menu of interior design talent calls the region home. Whether your preference is traditional Old World appeal, the timelessness of transitional style, or the sleek, clean lines of cutting-edge contemporary design, you’ll be able to satisfy your appetite for an interior that enhances your home life while telling the world something about who you are.
As you make plans for an interior update, designers recommend clipping out pictures of the looks, styles, and colors that you like and keeping them in a file. Bring the file to your meeting with an interior designer to give him or her a visual palette of your tastes.
By hiring an interior designer, you get access to the most exclusive furniture pieces at a fraction of the price—with their extensive contacts, interior designers can typically purchase furniture pieces at wholesale or trade prices for less money than you would ordinarily pay.

No project too small
Many people come to Martha O’Hara Interiors with projects they think will be “too small” for the firm. The truth is, Martha’s designers work on projects of all sizes. They enjoy the variety that different projects bring.
We recommend…

Our history…
GunkelmanFlesher Interior Design traces its roots to R. Thomas Gunkelman’s purchase of Black Interiors in Fargo, N.D., in 1962. Black Interiors later opened an office in Minneapolis, which became Gunkelmans Interior Design in 1976. Andrew Flesher joined the Gunkelmans team in 1999, and became a principal in 2005. GunkelmanFlesher opened a branch office in New York City in 2008.
What is your philosophy?
We believe that good design is timeless in both function and nature. Through years of experience, we create rooms that reflect our clients’ individual needs and personal style.
What defines a beautiful home?
“A beautiful home is one that functions for the client and has his or her personality in it,” says R. Thomas Gunkelman. “It is one that flows, is casual with a fresh style, and mixes periods and uses fabrics to meet a design challenge.”
TREND TALK “There is a trend in buying quality again. I love the notion that only wealthy people can afford cheap furniture—buy it once, and you never have to replace it. The key is to buy timeless and classic pieces of the best quality you can afford.”–Andrew Flesher, GunkelmanFlesher Interior Design
