Interior Design
When you walk into a room, you notice the little touches that give it a certain feeling and particular style: the furniture, the flooring, the lighting, the artwork, even the window treatments. Together, these elements give a room personality. Rooms, obviously, don’t start out with character. They start out as four boring bare walls. That’s where interior designers come in. Interior designers meet with homeowners, listen to how they live and how they want to live, then approach a room armed with an in-depth understanding of color, sound, light, patterns, furniture, fabrics, paint, fixtures, and art. The result is an otherwise uninspired space transformed into a functional work of art, a space that expresses who the client is, a space with character and personality.

What’s hot in the industry now?
Blending styles with artisan furniture, cabinetry, and original artwork for customized looks. By combining silver and gold finishes along with textural fabrics and wall coverings such as grass cloth, we can create a layered and luxurious effect.
Is there a project you’ve done in the past year that stands out in your mind?
We are working on the first ever retrofitted Passive House in North America—the MinnePHit House. This home, in Southwest Minneapolis, is an example of how to retrofit an older home into an energy efficient, sustainable, and comfortable life space for a family of five. Our more transitional style brings value to the home in the long run using green products and low-flow technologies.
What find has made the biggest impression on you this year?
Antique Rosewood 1930s French armoire. Booked veneer rosewood is very difficult to find in such great condition and we found an exquisitely made vintage piece in New York this past year. Antique case goods are an excellent way to build in unique wood textures, and at times, can be less costly than new pieces.

A successful design will enhance a homeowner’s daily life in ways that can be determined with a clear vision and expert planning. We create spaces to enjoy and share with family and friends for many years to come.

When should a person use the services of an interior designer?
Interior design isn’t brain surgery, but a person wouldn’t perform that on his or her own either. That’s because it takes a professional with years of experience and loads of knowledge to do the job right. Same goes for interior designers. We are creative professionals who solve problems by offering our expertise, skills, and intricate knowledge of industry resources. Without us, homeowners are on their own to navigate a dizzying array of decisions from budget, bids and other technical options to a seemingly endless number of design options. If you want every aspect of your home to be beautiful and support the lifestyle you live, hire a professional interior designer. We will serve as confidant, collaborator, and creator, devoting ourselves to your home remodel, construction, or redesign project.
What’s hot in the industry now?
Following trends is fun, interesting, even inspirational, but the designers at LiLu recognize there’s a time and place for leopard print. In our minds what’s in vogue now—and always—is ensuring our clients avoid short-lived fads by incorporating a lasting style appropriate for their individual space and aesthetic. In our minds, the trend to follow is designing never-before-seen interiors for one-of-a-kind clients.
Is there a project you’ve done in the past year that stands out in your mind?
It’s difficult to pick just one. The projects we remember most fondly are built on a solid foundation of trust. We assemble a design team that matches up best with the homeowner, and those team members present even the boldest concepts. In the end we believe innovative solutions are the result of the faith shared between designer and homeowner. This collaborative relationship is where inspired design is revealed.
Every room is an …

Having functional, uplifting, and beautiful spaces helps create more opportunities for our clients to live the lives they’ve always wanted.
