Landscaping & Outdoor Services
If it’s done well and “harmonizes with foliage nearby,” a landscaped property can increase the value of your home from 100 to 200 percent, according to Money magazine. An attractive landscape not only significantly adds to your home’s value, it can double (or even triple) the square footage of living space through the creation of “outdoor rooms” while reducing harm to the environment (all while making you feel happy because it’s so pretty!) Make the very most of your own little piece of earth by hiring a professional landscaping expert.

What are some common landscaping mistakes?
A common mistake when building a retaining wall occurs when construction is started at the wrong end. A wall should be started at the lowest elevation. When excavating for a patio, it’s common to over-excavate the area. Some DIY homeowners tackle jobs that are too big for their expertise, or over/under estimate the amount of materials needed for a job.
What trends have you been seeing now as far as open-air kitchens and outdoor entertaining spaces?
Outdoor kitchen and entertaining spaces have certainly been growing in popularity as people make the most of Minnesota’s warm-weather months. Firepits, fireplaces, and pizza ovens are also popular for outdoor living and entertainment, extending use of those spaces to the cooler months.

Our services:
We are an honest and creative landscape design and build firm, specializing in residential projects. We build strong relationships with our clients and encourage their voice through all phases.
Describe a project you are proud to have implemented. What about it makes you proud?
There are many projects that we feel proud of; however, we are most proud of the projects that continue to engage the owners years after we are finished with construction. These projects—coupled with referrals to others—are the highest compliments we can earn.
What are some common landscaping mistakes?
Hiring an under-educated designer, hiring an under-experienced installer, attempting to do it yourself, discussing price instead of value options, rushing your project, and not recognizing that the small details are unique opportunities for refinement.
What trends have you been seeing now as far as open-air kitchens and outdoor entertaining?
Trend or not, if you ask us we might suggest leaving your kitchen inside your home due to our short seasons. Though we have created some fantastic custom grilling spaces for clients, let us transform your outdoor space into a gorgeous respite from tasks!

Every year we donate a temporary memorial garden to a local Relay for Life event, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The garden includes paver walks, sitting areas, a water feature, lights, and landscaping. It’s a great team-building event, installed and torn down in less than 48 hours. More importantly is the effect it has on the participants. The memorial garden gives people an opportunity to pull off the track and quietly reflect and celebrate loved ones. The heartfelt thanks we receive from participants is more rewarding than any contract.
What questions do you ask potential clients?
We want to get to know the potential client’s vision. Everyone has some sort of idea of how they see their yard and outdoor spaces coming together; it’s our job to blend those ideas with our expertise. Our questions would encourage clients to describe how they would like to use the space, from family weeknights to weekend get-togethers.
What are some common landscaping mistakes?
The best landscapes are those that pay attention to scale. Some nearly great landscapes have fantastic features and materials, but don’t follow the scale of the house and yard. The landscape needs to be treated as an extension of the home—scale, style, and function.
One more thing:
It thrills us when families choose marshmallows, conversation, and an outdoor fire over popcorn and an indoor movie. We live in a beautiful state with an amazing warm-weather season. We love it when people make the most of it.

What are some common landscaping mistakes?
Don’t skimp on the stuff you can’t see, like base materials. Installing a proper base under your patio, walkway, or driveway will keep it from shifting, sinking, and collecting water.
One more thing:
We offer free classes each spring on building patios, walls, ponds, and more. Check our website for a complete schedule.
