What makes a great architect? Part designer, part engineer, part visionary, the phenomenal architect must be able to listen and interpret his or her clients’ wishes, think realistically (and optimistically), and achieve a vision that stands out as an aesthetic treasure. A great architect is conscious of the environment, the weather, the natural light, the views. A great architect designs buildings that make their clients’ lives not only more functional, but more meaningful and beautiful. We are fortunate to have so many talented architects in the local community, architects regularly receiving prestigious awards and national recognition for their residential and commercial work. Architects who, in our opinion, are truly great at what they do.
Charlie & Co. Design, Ltd.
About us:
Charlie & Company is a residential design studio focusing on thoughtful and unique architecture. We create homes devoted to a modern lifestyle while being mindful of tradition. Our passion for architecture, eagerness to listen, and attention to detail are evident in our designs, as well as the way in which we interact with our clients. Whether you dream about a kitchen remodel, a new home, or a large country estate, we bring the same passion for design to every project to help create a unique solution for your home.
Our philosophy:
We believe that great residential architecture can be accessible to everyone, regardless of budget. We often work within budgets that might—at first glance—seem overly challenging compared to the scope of what the client wants to accomplish, but with creativity and a little elbow grease, even cost-effective materials can become dramatic backdrops within a home, and make a lasting statement within the space.
Our style has been called…
“traditionally modern” by some of our clients. We’re fluent in a range of historical architectural styles, but we’re best known for combining clean lines with traditional and familiar forms. People want to feel comfortable within their homes and can trend towards a more traditional footprint. Understanding that, we breathe a little “now” into the design, giving it a unique feel that marries familiarity with modernity. Most importantly, though, we consider you, your personality, your family, your interests, and your budget. Your home is a unique reflection of your lifestyle, and we can help emphasize what is important.

David Heide Design Studio
Our specialty:
We provide the full spectrum of architecture and interior design services for residential clients—from refining ideas to drawing final plans to selecting finishes and furnishings. Whether a project is new construction or a renovation, historic or modern, our designs blend elements of timeless residential architecture with modern conveniences. We pride ourselves on getting everything right, down to the smallest detail.
Our philosophy:
We help clients understand their dreams, define the program for their projects, and create designs that exceed their expectations. During every step of the design process, our aim is to meet our clients’ needs with the highest level of service and quality.
We believe every home…
speaks a language of its own. We begin every project by listening to the house, allowing its original architecture to guide us while we incorporate the contemporary amenities our clients desire—larger kitchens with ample work space, laundry rooms, master suites, whatever makes the house more livable for them. Our designs for new construction incorporate our clients’ lifestyles and sensibilities in a range of styles and materials.

Eskuche
What sets you apart from the competition?
From the daily sketches and fine art renderings to the photorealistic “images” that allow a client to “test drive before you build,” we will blow our clients’ mind with our amazing in-house visual tools. We listen obsessively to “your dreams” and provide a collaborative environment with a client-focused approach. Our creative team has many years of construction experience that makes our drawings more clear and easier to build from, thus saving time and money for our clients. At Eskuche, we treat every client as though they are our only client.
Our style:
We are known for the variety of styles that we do successfully, and we’re not locked into any in particular style. True timeless architecture will stand the test of time—five, 10, 20 years down the road, so we avoid the trends. Our custom architectural designs are uniquely suited to the client, each one is timeless and exclusive to their site and their story.
Our design philosophy:
Architect Peter Eskuche believes a home’s entrance is like a handshake. All the details should come together to make a one-of-a-kind impression. We take the time to get to know our client’s personal style and character, organizational habits, artistic desires, and how they operate as a family through interviews and our wish list. At Eskuche, we listen to “ The Story” and we do our best to translate that information into a design that radiates the true essence of each client and their family. At the end of the day, we throw ego aside and focus on your dreams, your objectives. Your dream house WILL become a reality with us!
What are the benefits of working with an architect?
Architects see the big picture. We are specially trained to help clients define what they want to build, present options they might never have considered, and help them get the most for their investment. We are excellent problem-solvers—identifying problems before they arise and developing reasonable solutions. We are also advocates for our clients—always looking out for their best interests.

Laurel Ulland Architecture
About us:
LUA is a small full-service residential architectural firm composed of designers and architects that have a wealth of training and experience. Laurel Ulland, the principal of the firm, brings over 30 years of experience in residential design, renovation, and construction. Clients appreciate the firm’s experience and knowledge of the design process, attention to detail, understanding of construction methods, and effective construction administration and management skills.
Our design philosophy:
As residential architects, the homeowner is at the center of our world. There are no “hero” architects at our firm. We don’t dictate a certain design aesthetic or way of life. We take great pride in helping homeowners transform an existing residence or construct a new home in a way that reflects their particular needs, while enhancing the character and design of the original home or property.
A return on investment:
We recently worked with clients who bought an older home in the East Isles neighborhood of Minneapolis. We helped them remodel, expand, and settle into the house, only to have them subsequently be transferred shortly thereafter. Rather than living in their dream home for many years, the owners had to quickly put their house on the market. Despite the recession, poor economy, and depressed housing, they were able to sell the home at a profit (including the architectural fees). Now that’s good value!

Those are all beautiful places! I am a big fan of architecture and one day I would like to live in houses like this. Very simple, but very practical. Recently I have found an article about intriguing houses in Toronto and I have set my goal to build one day a house like that. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed reading your post.
