When you walk into a room, you notice the little touches that give it a certain feeling and particular style: the furniture, the flooring, the lighting, the artwork, even the window treatments. Together, these elements give a room personality. Rooms, obviously, don’t start out with character. They start out as four boring bare walls. That’s where interior designers come in. Interior designers meet with homeowners, listen to how they live and how they want to live, then approach a room armed with an in-depth understanding of color, sound, light, patterns, furniture, fabrics, paint, fixtures, and art. The result is an otherwise uninspired space transformed into a functional work of art, a space that expresses who the client is, a space with character and personality.
LiLu Interiors
Why should someone hire an interior designer?
Cable TV has made it seem as though anyone can be an interior designer, all that’s needed is some plywood, primer, and persistence. Not true. It takes a professional like LiLu Interiors—with our decades of experience and vast amounts of industry knowledge—to do the job right. Without us, homeowners struggle to navigate a dizzying array of budgets, bids, and other technical requirements, not to mention an overwhelming number of design options. For a home to be beautiful and support a distinct lifestyle, homeowners should partner with a professional interior designer. We don’t simply throw a pillow at the problem and call it day. Instead, we build lasting relationships of trust and devote ourselves to every square inch of a new construction, remodel, or redesign project.
Industry trends:
Who doesn’t love to follow trends? They’re fun, entertaining, even inspiring. But the designers at LiLu recognize there’s a time and place for leopard print. In our minds what’s in vogue now—and always—is protecting our clients from short-lived fads by creating a lasting style that’s appropriate for the life they live and the passions they love. What’s hot in the industry now and always is designing never-before-seen interiors for one-of-a-kind clients.
Every room is an…
opportunity to influence people’s lives. Homes are where we make memories, foster friendships, share meals, indulge in passions, and celebrate life—all with family and friends. Innovative, uplifting, and beautiful spaces help our clients live the lives they’ve always wanted.

Martha O'Hara Interiors
When should a person use the services of an interior designer?
Whether it’s a “freshen up” involving a coat or two of paint and rearranging furniture, or building a new home from the ground up, an interior designer can be an asset when it comes to bringing your personal taste into a cohesive look. A good interior designer keeps both your aesthetic and your bottom line in the forefront. The end product will be infinitely better—no matter the scale of the project.
What is a designer’s “best friend” when working on a project?
“Color,” says designer Rebecca Van’t Hull of Martha O’Hara Interior (MOI). “Color says something about your taste and your environment. And it’s such an easily changeable ingredient in a room. Whether it’s a wall color, window treatments or pillows strewn around the room, color is the easiest way to create the mood you want to convey.”
Industry trends:
“Gold is hot right now,” says Kristy Conlin, CKD at Martha O’Hara Interiors. “Whether it’s burnished, antiqued, or yes—believe it or not— natural brass. But never fear, the tonality and finishes of today’s gold is a far cry from 80s brass. Some clients are hesitant to go with our recommendations because of this hardware hangover, but once they see it on cabinets, lighting and accents on furniture, they love it.”
Is there a project you’ve done in the past year that stands out in your mind?
Tani Nielsen, an interior designer at MOI, gets a dreamy look on her face when asked this question. She recently worked with a builder on a spec home on Lake Minnetonka and was given free range with color palettes, finishes, lighting, and furnishings. “I was like a kid in a candy store as I was able to use every aspect of my creativity without restraint,” she comments. The end result? A two-time 2012 ASID first place award-winning residence that is now home to a very happy client.
What find has made the biggest impression on you this year?
“It’s not a new find,” says Darsi Floersch, senior designer at MOI, “but I LOVE products from Designers Guild! There is a vividness and depth to colors that is absolutely amazing. They can take a normal purple and make it utterly mouthwatering.”
Every project is a…
“collaborative adventure,” says design director Carrie Rodman. Each client has their own style, each design team has a vision, every architect has a purpose to their design, every builder has their methodologies. Collaboration and trust is key in putting together your team in the very beginning, when you have the opportunity to really take advantage of the skills and expertise of your assembled professionals. With this approach, your project will exceed expectations.

Our design philosophy:
Our design philosophy comes down to what we call “stylish integration.” An attractive home is the result of thoughtfully bringing together functionality, furnishings, and style to create spaces that not only achieve the clients’ design goals but also reflect their personality and lifestyle.
Our value proposition:
One of the biggest values we bring to a project is our team approach to home design. Clients no longer have to travel from one showroom to another, describe their project to several different people, and keep track of all the samples. We value our clients’ time by offering a convenient and comprehensive showroom that is open every day to the public. And most importantly, we value the lasting relationships we build with our clients as we work together from concept to project completion to create beautiful spaces.
