Miami Spice

Give your yard some tropical attitude this season courtesy of Hugo landscaper Tropical Plants & Topiaries Unlimited. This is how it works: Order the $1,500 “Playa del Carmen” package or the $3,000 “Montego Bay” package, and the Tropicals crew will install 12 or 18 tropical plants and trees around your pool or patio, and pick them up again come fall when night temperatures drop below 50 degrees. Or, release your inner Don Johnson with the $5,800 “South Beach” package—it includes 10 palms, a lemon tree, two gardenia trees, six Hawaiian ti plants, two mandevillas, three bromeliads, and four jumbo hibiscus. Totally beats tiki torches. Make your reservations at 651-488-7717 or tropicalplantsunlimited.com.

Point & Click

Give four Minneapolis ad agency veterans with an eye for photography free rein with an idea, and this is what you get: Viewville.com, an online gallery dedicated to nosing out the work of outstanding photographers and selling gallery-quality prints at reasonable prices (most can be had for less than $100 and come with frame-ready, acid-free white mats). Photos include original work from Minneapolis’s Ellie Kingsbury (left) and Chicago’s Laurie Rubin (right), and many more local and nationally known shooters. Extra incentive: The photographers themselves get 50 percent of the selling price. Shop the collection at Viewville.com, and get free shipping by entering MIDWESTHOME at checkout.
