Harry Bertoia
“Bird” lounge for Knoll (1950)An Italian immigrant who began designing furniture in the early 1940s to finance his sculpting career, Harry Bertoia used industrial wire rods to fashion pieces that were extremely durable, yet visually delicate. His “Bird” lounge with its odd, extruded shape, was the first of a series that has since inspired many designers.
