Savoring Suburbia

The Walker tackles the land of barbecues and strip malls in “World’s Away: New Suburban Landscapes,” the exhibit running now through August 17. On display are 75 paintings, photographs, and architectural models, including work by Gregory Crewdson, Angela Strassheim, and others who find artistic inspiration in the outer rings. To coincide with the exhibit, the Walker is inviting suburban-themed video submissions on YouTube. Available now: videos of the Maple Grove sand pit and a selection of St. Louis Park satellite dishes.

Rockin’ at 93

Legendary Minneapolis architect Ralph Rapson, 93, continues his remarkable career. He recently won a prototype competition sponsored by Dwell magazine and Blu Dot for his “Large Lounge”—a metal cross-frame design that resembles an upscale lawn chair. The judges proclaimed Rapson’s design most likely to become the “next classic.” The chair will debut in May, as part of the Blu Dot collection.

Floranova

Latino art, music, and floral comes to Macy’s. The 2008 spring show runs from March 13–30.
