mapeterson.comThe M|A|Peterson Design Center is not a showroom in the traditional sense. It doesn’t focus on a specific product category, nor does it specialize in a single manufacturer. Instead, it’s a comfortable environment where you’ll find everything to outfit your home—cabinetry, hardware, fabrics, flooring samples, stone and surfaces, tile, furniture finishes, and lighting and plumbing catalogs.
That’s the beauty of it. This truly unique space—the M|A|Peterson staff refers to it as their “workroom”—is meant to get the firm’s clients thinking, early in the design process, about what they want the inside of their homes to look and feel like. It’s meant to inspire, and it does.
“Most people are tactile and visual…we’ve tried to be really thoughtful about how we’ve put our design selection center together, because we want it not to just store our products, but to give visual representation,” says Colleen Eastman, M|A|Peterson interior designer. “By the time we work through the architectural design, we’ve given our clients a vision of what their finishes are going to be.”
Mark Peterson, M|A|Peterson’s lead designer, says the design center has materials across the spectrum, from the value end to the design end and everything in between. “We’ve got things from all over the world,” he says. “We have vendors that other people in town don’t have.”
The M|A|Peterson Design Center has a large enough selection that clients often find something they love—or something close, which gives designers a sense of color and material preferences. In the latter case, the designers use those preferences to find just what the client has in mind. The goal is to have enough materials on hand so that the designers get to know and understand what clients are looking for, Eastman says.
In that way, the design center is a jumping off point into home design. And it is unique because it’s a space where M|A|Peterson’s staff can work with clients to design the architecture of a home while concurrently working on interior design. The result: Both complement each other in a space that lives as perfectly as its owners could have imagined.
By bringing the architectural, interior, landscape design for a project under one roof, the design center saves M|A|Peterson’s clients time and money. “Everybody’s busy nowadays, so we need to provide convenience and selection,” Peterson says. “Our job is to provide understanding as to what the options are, and from there, guiding them to what is going to be the best look for them.”
