While home compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) has caught on, home LED lighting is still an emerging industry. But some fixtures are leading the pack. One is by Cree. These recessed fixtures use 85 percent less energy than similar incandescent fixtures and 50 percent less than a CFL. They last up to 50,000 hours, or eight hours a day for 20 years (that’s 50 times longer than an incandescent bulb and five times longer than a CFL). They show the colors of a room better, do not require warm-up time, are dimmable to 20 percent, and unlike CFLs, do not contain mercury. creative-lighting.com
