Localistas Unite

A few doors down from its 50th & Bryant store in south Minneapolis, homegrown chain Patina opened Shoppe Local just in time for holiday shopping. Check out small leather goods by Christopher Straub of Project Runway fame, lake-inspired pillows by Crafterall, art prints by Lovely Mpls, and honey and beeswax candles from Ames Farm. All items are made locally (largely in the Twin Cities) and most are under $50. Shoppe Local, 813 W. 50th St., Minneapolis, 612-827-3071, patinastores.com.

Custom Greetings

Send a photo of your face (or your dog’s face or your kid’s face) to Minneapolis artist Paula Fynboh and she’ll transform the image into a South Park–style greeting card using colored paper and recycled trinkets. She adds a tiny envelope to the back for a mini message. Custom cards are $10 each; call 612-396-5391 or visit hungrydogdesigns.com to order.

Mod Holiday

Back in the early 1980s, Hammel, Green, and Abrahamson architect Richard Babcock designed a 6-foot wooden Christmas tree that seemed to float, suspended above his family’s holiday packages. Pat Babcock Sorenson trademarked her dad’s design and now offers it to other design-savvy families. The 6-foot tree is $290, in cherry or maple, and comes rolled in a bundle. Call 612-220-2639 to order, or visit possibilitree.com.

Going Once…

Southways, the estate built by John S. and Eleanor Pillsbury in 1918 and most recently owned and restored by James and Joann Jundt, has languished on the market with an asking price of $53.5 million. Now the home will be offered for sale in a sealed bid auction through Chicago-based Sheldon Good and Co. The 13-acre estate on Bracketts Point will be available in its entirety or as five 2-plus-acre parcels. The bid deadline is December 9. Visit sheldongood.com.
