November/December Open House
SOLD!
The distinctive stucco Spanish Colonial on Lake of the Isles, previously owned by marketing executive Tom Wicka and his wife, Angie, sold in mid-September for $4.859 million, thought to be the largest single-home transaction to date in Minneapolis proper. Designed in 1911 by architect Frederick Soper, the 7,750-square-foot house has a unique atrium inside, with the seating areas surrounding a grand open staircase beneath an elaborate ceiling painting. Angie Wicka, the former owner of Casabella Designs, added plenty of wow to the interiors with Palace of Versailles–style accents and an over-the-top kitchen with five different wallpaper patterns. Sold by Jeff Hornig, Lakes Sotheby’s International.

Award-winning architect Milo Thompson, best known for designing the beloved Lake Harriet bandshell, bought this Lake Minnetonka summer cottage about five years ago and completely reinvented its look and feel—just for the fun of it. He designed a glass-encased, two-story-high living room with stunning lake views; a new, all-white Shingle-Style-meets-Scandinavia exterior; and a 60-foot-long corridor that connects the garage and guest house with the main structure, while bisecting the property into east and west gardens. Thompson and his wife, Audrey, are retiring to their beachfront property in Florida, so they’re selling this 3,988-square-foot reinvented gem. Price is $1.675 million.
