Exotic woods and sumptuous finishes speak volumes at Bespoke

If you delight in fine custom furniture, cabinetry, and built-ins for your kitchen or bath, Bespoke just might be the showroom of your dreams. Located on Washington Avenue until two years ago, founder and owner Keith Morgan moved Bespoke into its International Market Square showroom in May. A self-taught designer and artisan who learned woodcraft as a boy—a begrudging recruit in his father’s hobbyist shop—Morgan is a knowledgeable link among the designers, clients, and craftspeople in his St. Paul workshop. He approaches every piece of furniture, every inch of trimwork, every bit of shelving as an opportunity to do something extraordinary. Bespoke’s simple and clean designs allow each piece’s exotic woods—Indian rosewood, figured English sycamore, Hawaiian koa, and more—to speak for themselves. Morgan thinks the Twin Cities is ready for his couture approach to furniture and cabinetry. He plans to open a second IMS showroom in the spring of 2010 that will feature two Bespoke kitchens that will dazzle with one-of-a kind cabinetry, with marquetry inside and out, and handmade hardware.

LEFT Bespoke designed and fabricated this couture interior for a Minneapolis powder room. Custom touches include the ebonized walnut paneling with hand-sawn detailing and the pearlescent framing around the mirror. “The room is the frame, and the art is the furniture,” says Morgan. “Both need to be great.”
