Forest Lake

Forest Lake is an exurb 25 miles northeast of the Twin Cities along I-35 that is experiencing tremendous residential and commercial growth. Today, the city is home to more than 14,400 residents and serves as an economic hub for the far northeastern suburbs. Though the city is in an expansion phase, it continues to keep a small-town flavor with its charming downtown, lakefront, and rural surroundings. Its biggest attraction is its lake of the same name, offering 2,250 acres of water recreation in the form of swimming, boating and fishing.

Hugo

Working to preserve its agricultural history, Hugo is a growing city that maintains a small-town feel. A short drive north of downtown St. Paul, Hugo is a popular choice for new developments. Because of the recent housing boom, the city council adopted a comprehensive plan, which includes cluster housing on larger lots and preservation of agricultural fields. The downtown redevelopment plan will instill a unique sense of place in the downtown area.

Lindstrom

Lindstrom, nicknamed “America’s Little Sweden,” received its nickname due to the similarity of the area’s topography to that of the Swedish countryside, which, in turn, brought Scandinavian homesteaders up the St. Croix River from Stillwater. Lindstrom has one fully developed industrial park and is attempting to construct a second. There has been an increase in residential developments in recent years as the city is located in the state’s fourth fastest-growing county, Chisago County. Many winter and summer activities such as fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and sailing keep residents and visitors busy. Lindstrom is nine miles from Forest Lake and 10 from Taylors Falls.
