Design insight

This dressed-up Craftsman was custom-designed for a family in Shakopee. Throughout the elegant interior, “there’s a ton of detail everywhere you look,” says Courtney Taylor, vice president of Katherine Taylor’s Homes. The cabinetry was crafted to look like furniture, and the ironwork and tile were custom-designed by the builder.

Swank shelter

The kitchen includes a Wolf and Sub-Zero appliance package, custom glazed enameled cabinetry, and granite countertops. The great room boasts a 6-foot radius window of curved glass that follows the curvature of the wall. The main-floor master suite has woods from around the world and art glass in custom walk-in shower. Upstairs, a computer study area is outside the children’s bedrooms. The lower level includes a large game room and a separate “Star Wars”-themed home theater room with lit display cases to house the homeowner’s collection.

A place to call home

Katherine Taylor’s Homes is a full-service custom builder, and nowhere is that more evident than the home’s “cat doors.” These doorways, which resemble oversized mouse holes elegantly finished with trim, allow the owners’ cats to pass freely from room to room. “We listen to more than words from our clients,” Taylor says, “and then convert the information into custom ideas for that family.”
